Are museums closed on Mondays in Italy?

Many are, and it ruins more itineraries than any other scheduling detail. The Uffizi, the Accademia in Florence and a long list of state museums traditionally close on Mondays; the Vatican Museums close on Sundays except the last Sunday of the month, when they're free and correspondingly mobbed. Archaeological sites like the Colosseum and Pompeii usually stay open daily. The practical rule: before you lock in which city gets which day, check the opening days of the two or three things you'd be upset to miss, and build the week around those rather than around flights.
