Is Italy worth visiting in winter?
For cities, food and museums, winter is superb and badly underrated. December through February means the Uffizi without a queue, restaurant tables available on the night, hotel prices at half of what May costs, and Rome at 55°F with clear light. The trade-offs are real: coastal towns and the Amalfi Coast largely shut down, ferry schedules thin out, daylight ends around 5pm, and the north gets fog and damp cold. Christmas markets in the Alps and Venice's Carnevale are their own reasons to go. Pick cities and inland regions, not the coast.
