Do I need ETIAS for Italy right now?
No — as of August 2026 ETIAS is not in operation, and you travel to Italy with just your passport. This trips people up because half the internet still says "from 2026 you'll need ETIAS". The EU removed its late-2026 target in July, and 2027 now looks likelier. When it does launch, the EU has committed to announcing the date at least six months ahead, so you will not be caught out mid-trip. It will cost around €20 and be valid for three years.
