What food and wine can I bring home to the US from Italy?
Wine, hard aged cheese, dried pasta, olive oil, coffee, chocolate and sealed dry goods are generally fine; cured meats generally are not. Prosciutto, salami and most pork products are blocked by USDA rules on animal disease, and "but it was vacuum sealed" doesn't help. Soft cheeses packed in liquid are also a problem. Wine is allowed โ one litre per adult is duty-free, more is usually just a small duty rather than a refusal, but check with the airline about weight. Declare food on your customs form: declaring something that turns out to be fine costs you nothing, and not declaring something prohibited costs a fine.
